"We Serve" Community Involvement

Service to Washington Township and surrounding communities, as well as good citizenship, are cornerstones of our organization and the annual White Cane Drive is one of the most visual fundraisers.

White Cane Drive

Typically the last weekend in April through the first weekend in May, Lions all across Michigan sell White Cane pins to raise money to provide goods and services to disabled individuals, young people, civic organizations, aEyeglass assistance programnd others in the community with needs.

Look for Washington Lions Club members at local shopping centers and street corners with White Cane buckets in hand.

Dedicated to helping those less fortunate in our community and throughout the world, the Washington Lions Club sponsors a variety of service projects that provide assistance to others in many ways. These service projects include:

Eyeglass, Hearing Aid Assistance

Eyeglass assistance program For low and moderate income persons who live in the Washington area, the Washington Lions Club provides assistance with the purchase of eyeglasses and hearing aids. International Peace Poster Contest

International Peace Poster ContesSince 1988, more than 2 million children around the world have expressed their feelings about world peace through the International Peace Poster Contest. Each year, a different theme is selected to help spark the artists' imaginations. Themes reflect the Lions Club's concern for the environment and the welfare of all people, as well as the belief that the journey to world peace begins with a small step. Lions Clubs worldwide sponsor the contest along with area schools and organized youth groups. Posters are judged on artistic merit, expressions of theme, and originality. The grand prize winner receives $2,500 and a trip for the artist and two family members to Lions Day with the United Nations for the special awards ceremony.
